Monster-sized Rock Concert hits Yonge-Dundas Square in May
The GTA-based nonprofit organization, MonstrARTity is a dear friend of the Frederic Chopin Music School. Coming this May, the organization is launching their yearly concert – the Monster Rock Orchestra (MRO). Naturally, when we were asked to promote their Call for Volunteers, we obliged!
The annual Monster Rock Orchestra concert is being held on May 22 at 7:00 pm at Yonge-Dundas Square. This is a fantastic opportunity for FCMS students to earn the 40 volunteer hours required for graduation with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. It is also a great opportunity for FCMS students to get involved in the broader music community and make contacts in Toronto’s music industry.
MonstrARTity is an incorporated not-for-profit arts organization that creates innovative, world-class productions. In addition to producing MRO, MonstrARTity also produces the Bollywood Monster Mashup, the largest South Asian festival in Canada.
First off, the Monster Rock Orchestra is a FREE, family friendly event and is open to the public. MRO a music ensemble created by the stylings and arrangements of MonstrARTity’s Artistic Director, Vikas Kohki. The concert features a unique modern fusion and some of the best rock bands from Canada. After many years of performances in Mississauga, namely the Mississauga Waterfront Festival in Port Credit, MRO is broadening its scope and being featured at Yonge-Dundas Square – the pinnacle of dazzling lights and glamour in Toronto. For 2015, the MRO will perform music ranging from the classic stylings of Elvis, Aretha and Bon Jovi, to modern-day melodies by Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and Lorde. In addition, the show will include a special tribute to the legendary Dr. Spock – for all you Star Trek fans!
Kohli says, “The show has always been a face-melting experience, and this year is even more special as we will play the original Star Trek theme as a tribute to Leonard Nimoy. We are the Starship Enterprise of the music world, with our blazing guitar riffs and lasers as our phasers and photon torpedoes!”
